Here’s what’s happening Courtside at the Y

Here’s what’s happening  Courtside at the Y The Ashland Area YMCA is keeping it busy in February and March, with a racquetball tournament Feb. 16 & 17.

It’s the 42nd year for the Racquetball Tournament, said Kevin Busick, Sports and Fitness Director at the Y, sponsored by Smokin’ J’s Rib and Brewhouse. The tournament typically draws 50 to 75 participants from throughout the tristate area. Funds raised by the tournament are used to help fund Y scholarships for children and families who would not otherwise be able to afford Y membership or participation.

The tournament is open to men and women age 18 and older. Divisions include Singles — Open, A, B, C, and D; Doubles –Open, A, B, C and D. Entry fee is $30 for the first event; $20 for the second event; limit of two events per person.

Entries must be received no later than 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. Feb. 16, with breakfast and warmups. Matches begin at 8:30 a.m.

Match consists of two games to 15 points with 11-point tiebreaker. All players are guaranteed a minimum of two matches per event. All divisions are double elimination; USRA rules apply. All matches will be self-refereed. Awards will be given to first-and second place winners. Participants will receive a commemorative sweatshirt.
