The New Year’s resolution is something of a ritual. Every January, we make promises to ourselves and our loved ones about things we hope to achieve in the new year, most of which relate to personal goals, such as learning something new, finding a new job, being happy, getting into shape, losing weight, eating right, reducing stress, and so on.
Although our hearts are in the right place, those who achieve their New Year’s resolutions each year are few. If that’s you – if you’ve made resolution after resolution to get healthy only to fall off the wagon sometime around Jan. 31 – maybe it’s time to get some help. The Ashland Area YMCA is here for you.
Whether you’re 22 or 82, the Y offers a wide array of fitness classes, programs and services that can help you achieve your New Year’s resolutions. For many, group fitness classes are just the thing to get them motivated and help them stay on track.
If you’re in good shape but want to gain strength and build stamina, check out our high-intensity fitness classes, including Cross Training, Boot Camp, Total Body Challenge and SPIN. Your heart will be pumping as you achieve your target heart rate, burn calories and give and receive encouragement from the instructor and others in the class.
Consider yourself to be in moderately good shape, maybe not quite up to high intensity yet, but on your way? Check out our moderate intensity classes, including PiYo (a combination of Pilates and Yoga); circuit training; Zumba; and Hip-Hop Cardio.
Not quite ready for all that yet? No worries! Our low-intensity classes are a great place to start your journey to a healthier you. Check out yoga, Pilates or, if you’re a senior, Silver Cardio. Everyone’s got to start somewhere and these are great choices!
Now we know that everyone is different and maybe group classes just aren’t your thing. That’s OK. At the Y, you can go at your own pace, working out in the fitness center, running on the track, playing basketball or swimming laps. Need a little encouragement or instruction? Our certified personal trainers can help by teaching you how to get the most out of your workout; developing specialized routines to address a problem area; or even provide the accountability and motivation that we all need from time to time to stay on track.
Maybe you’ve set a goal to learn to swim. The YMCA has taught more people across the United States how to swim than anyone else! We know swimming and offer classes for kids and adults at all skill levels.
At the Y, it’s our mission to put Christian principals into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. And that includes helping you achieve your New Year’s resolutions.
