Take Control of Your Ticker: Downtown Inspires Heart Health

By Whitney Lowe, Ashland in Motion Executive Director

The air is aflutter with the sounds of hearts beating, and it’s brought on by more than just heart-shaped candy sentiments. February is American Heart Month, a time of the year designated to educate and raise awareness of cardiovascular disease and prevention. According to a recent study found at Healthfinder.gov, cardiovascular disease – including heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure – is responsible for one out of every three deaths in the United States. It is the number one killer of American women and men, and it is a leading cause of serious illness and disability.

Take Control of Your TickerHeart health begins with identifying risk factors, setting health goals, and working towards healthier lifestyle habits and choices. While health resources and initiatives are bountiful in Ashland, downtown especially is home to restaurants, health centers and spas that inspire a healthier lifestyle and aid in the pursuit of a tip-top ticker. Check out these downtown spots that will help you fuel up, work it out, and wind down!
